Dubai Logistics
Dubai logistics city is the new cargo facility that has come up in Dubai. It has been constructed in the Jebel Ali area and became ready for operation in 2008. This facility came up to augment Jebel Ali which has gradually become the logistical centre of the UAE and as such had to handle an increased amount of cargo.
Almost 80 companies have already taken up space in the Jebel Ali complex and more are on the anvil. According to official estimates this new cargo facility would have the capability to handle about 12 million tonnes of cargo.
The new Dubai cargo facility is located in close proximity to the Jebel Ali International Airport and Jebel Ali Port Free Zone. After completion Dubai logistics city will enable Jebel Ali International Airport to handle more cargo than Chicago’s O’Hare Airport and London’s Heathrow airport.
On the other hand Jebel Ali Port is considered as one of the world’s largest container handlers. The establishment of this new facility is indeed an important landmark which would go a long way in further strengthening Dubai’s position as the logistical and Dubai air cargo hub of the Middle-East region.
The Dubai Logistics City is promoted by Dubai World Central (DWC) as a part of its multi-modal integrated logistics platform. Having an area of 140 square kilometers this new facility kick-started with its first licensed logistics operator which derived its license from the urban land development in south-west Dubai. The construction of this 25,000 square meter facility was taken up by RSA Logistics DWC LLC, a Dubai logistics company.
You would be surprised to know that the construction was completed in record one year’s time. The RSA logistics facility is itself built on a 65,000 square meter plot that is located within the new facility. The company is also equipped with 26,585 pallet positions.
The construction of the 21.5 square kilometer area Dubai Logistics City was taken up by the Dubai Government with the objective to develop its transport and logistics services since Dubai is at an advantageous position due to its geographical location. The strategy is to transform Dubai into a logistics regional hub of the region.
Taking the first initiative in its endeavor the government allowed a country based Logistics Company to commence operations at the new logistics facility. Thus the entry of RSA Logistics facility is considered as a first step to transform this new facility into a multi-modal logistics hub catering to the entire Middle-East region.
The results are now beginning to show with a number of international logistics companies signing up to construct their facilities at Dubai logistics city. It is expected that the RSA Logistics facility will leverage the new facility with its multi-modal integrated logistics approach.
It would get further backing because of its close proximity to the Al Maktoum International Airport, the Jebel Ali Port and extensive road networks. With all these advantages the new Dubai logistic facility would not only serve the UAE but also nearby Gulf Cooperation Council states as well.
